Miles Okazaki – The Sky Below
Denman Fowler Maroney, Steven Frieder Music, #RatzoHarris & #BobMeyer – Martingale
Ambrose Akinmusire – On The Tender Spot Of Every Calloused Moment
Album of the Week
Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids – Shaman!
Our album of the week is an outstanding double LP from #IdrisAckamoor&ThePyramids, which hears the group pondering ‘love and loss, mortality, the afterlife, family and salvation.’ Their spiritual septet sound has been beautifully captured at Malcolm Catto’s London studio, and Tokio Aoyama’s cover painting perfectly represents the album’s rich sound and subject matter.
Classic Album of the Week
Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
Released in August 1976, Jaco Pastorius’ eponymous debut album arrived shortly after his tenure as Weather Report bassist began. As well as being a masterclass in fretless electric bass playing, it showcases his willingness to collaborate and create in a number of moods and styles.
